The Sound of the Blazing Blue Band is an instrumental organization of the Fine Arts Department at Northwest Whitfield High School. Location: 1651 Tunnel Hill Varnell Road * Tunnell Hill, Georgia 30755-9247. The primary goal of the band is to provide young people with an experience in music that is both enjoyable and educational. The elements of music are taught through the exciting medium of performance.
The larger organization is divided into five bands, each with its own goals. The bands are the Concert Band, the Symphonic Band, the Wind Ensemble, the Jazz Band, and The NWHS "Sound of the Blazing Blue" Marching Band. The drama of Russian composers, the elegance of Mozart, the patriotic fervor of Americans like John Philip Sousa, and the excitement of a Friday Night ball game are brought to life in these bands at Northwest Whitfield High School.
Of course, the friendships and good times are as important as anything else!
All students are taught a number of non-musical skills that have importance as they communicate with audiences and as they travel to football games, music festivals, parades, concerts, and contests. Students learn responsibility, self-discipline, cooperation, stage presence, good grooming, and the art of sacrificing personal wishes for the benefit of others.
